Device-Free Localization Using Privacy-Preserving Infrared Signatures Acquired from Thermopiles and Machine Learning
Nathaniel Faulkner, Fakhrul Alam, Mathew Legg, Serge Demidenko
2021 - IEEE Access
This paper used low resolution (8 by 8 pixels) thermopiles to localise a subject. The subject does not require a device on their person, and can be positioned with 10-20 cm median accuracy. The system was tested upon a range of subjects in several environments without significant performance deterioration.

Watchers on the wall: Passive visible light-based positioning and tracking with embedded light-sensors on the wall
Nathaniel Faulkner, Fakhrul Alam, Mathew Legg, Serge Demidenko
2019 - IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement
Watchers on the Wall, localises a target based on measuring the change the target creates in the received signal strength of the ambient light recorded at an array of light-sensors embedded in the wall.
